“These are not yet solutions. But they are places to dig.” — Brit Marling

I am thinking about what I eat and should eat and want to eat; while remembering:

Food for thought

  • You are what you eat
  • I eat, therefore I am
  • Eat, drink and be healthy (Thank you Dr Willet)
  • Do you believe in eating, er, magic?
  • Be chewsy
  • Eat Well > Be Well > Live Well ( Thank you Kim )

The following is a list I have made up in the past day or so. It’s just a start. I hope that future editions might amplify and augment this first pass, validate and authenticate my propositions, and supply evidence these thoughts are in corroboration with actual studies and papers.

1. Avoiding bad food and seeking good advice

  • High-glycemic, salts, nitrites, bad cholesterol, FODMAP. organic, untreated, fresh
  • Separating the wheat from the chaff is just as important while reading

2. A diet that supplies all needed nutrients

  • Probiotic without the probiotics
  • Prebiotic without the prebiotics
  • Vitamins without pills

3. Food that supports a healthy microbiome all the way down and out

  • There is a reason why some people are called “old farts”

4. A diet that helps weight loss or gain and enables fitness

  • Calories, exercise, fasting, timing

5. Food that is filling

  • Feeling hungry with no available satisfaction is no fun

6. Food that tastes good, that brings delight

  • Every palette is different

7. Recipes for person by person

  • A recipe for six people is not useful for a single person
  • Meals for skinny people may differ than meals for fat people

8. Meals that can be prepared within a given time and abilities allocated

  • It may be hours, it may be minutes, but needs possibilities for all
  • Allow for capabilities and disabilities — some chop onions in seconds and others take minutes

9. Actual products you can buy — that are readily obtainable

  • Foods you want to eat frequently should be available from places within a short walk
  • Food you want to eat frequently should be at a price you cam afford

10 A diet that travels, is portable, can fit in anywhere in the world

  • And can be adapted to wherever at a moment’s notice

A little bit of this, a little bit of that. Pet the cat. Don't get fat. In other words: see both sides, live/love in the moment. Keep persistent ambitions
